In this episode of Peace Notes, Pastor Steve Cassimy shared a timely message titled “He Knows My Name”, diving into the heart of what it truly means to be a Christian. One of the central themes he unpacked was the difference between spirituality and religiosity, a debate that has existed in the church for decades. Too often, people lead with their denomination rather than their relationship with Christ. Pastor Cassimy emphasized that our primary identity should be as Christians first, with everything else flowing from that foundation. Denominations don’t save us—only the blood of Jesus does.
He also explored the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5, pointing out that Scripture refers to it as one fruit with multiple expressions, not separate “fruits.” Much like a citrus fruit with several segments, the fruit of the Spirit includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We don’t get to pick and choose which ones to display; the Holy Spirit works on developing all of them in us, even the areas where we may be weaker.
The message took a powerful turn as Pastor Cassimy reflected on the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man wasn’t condemned for cruelty, but for indifference—he simply did nothing to help the man suffering at his gate. This challenges the idea that church participation alone is enough. True righteousness shows up in how we treat people, especially those in need. In a striking point, Pastor Cassimy reminded us that Lazarus is the only named person in Jesus’ parables, showing that God honors and remembers those who are often overlooked by the world.
To close, Pastor Cassimy shared that one of the highest compliments a Christian can receive is to be told, “You remind me of Jesus.” It’s not about being praised for talent or charisma—it’s about reflecting Christ in how we live and love. More than anything, this episode reminds us that God doesn’t just see us in a crowd—He knows us by name.
